Inside the HAPi Tribe
No two clients arrive the same.
Different goals, different starting points, different reasons for reaching out.
What they share is the decision to back themselves.
These spotlights give you a genuine look at what happens when coaching becomes personal.
Meet Elly
A mum in her early 40s, Elly recently decided to make time for herself again.
After years of prioritising everyone else; balancing a busy family life and a demanding career, she wanted more than just another fitness plan. She wanted to feel stronger, healthier, more energised and ultimately more confident in herself.
For the last three years, she’d been trying to improve her newfound passion, surfing, and was never afraid of putting the effort in. But the right training, and a real understanding of what her body needed, had been missing.
What Elly needed wasn’t to do more. She needed her training to connect with the goal she cared about most.
Together, we focused on the strength, movement and control needed to succeed in the water.
Now those foundations are in place, we’re building further through nutrition, stronger routines and habits that support the life she wants to live.
Elly’s story
I reached out because I wanted to get stronger for a surf trip… but I’ve gained so much more than that.
After nearly 3 years of trying to progress in the water, I knew something was missing. Strength was the piece I hadn’t properly focused on.
Working with Hayley has never been about shrinking myself or chasing unrealistic body ideals. It’s been about building strength, confidence and learning to trust my body.
I’ve been supported every step of the way — encouraged to push when I needed it, reminded to rest when I needed that too, and taught how to truly understand what my body needs.
Even remotely from Sri Lanka, the coaching, guidance and support never stopped… and I finally surfed the wave I’d been chasing for years.
A genuine dream come true.
Now we’re onto the next phase — focusing on nutrition, building strength further, refining technique, and creating sessions that fit real life at home or in the gym. Nothing generic. Nothing one-size-fits-all. A plan built around me, what works for me, and something I’m excited to keep showing up for.
Because when it feels doable, it becomes sustainable.
When it feels yours, it becomes powerful.
If any part of Elly’s journey feels familiar, know that it’s never too late to make small changes that can create a big impact

Training with purpose, building confidence, and finally catching the wave she’d been chasing.
The Goal
When Elly first reached out, she had one clear goal: to improve her surfing.
She’d been learning for nearly three years and loved being in the water, but felt frustrated that her progress had stalled. She knew there was more in her, but something was missing.
Together, we identified that it wasn’t about trying harder. It was about preparing her body in the right way. Strength, movement control, balance, confidence and power were the pieces that needed attention.
Why This Was Different
So many women come to fitness believing they just need to “exercise more” or do generic workouts. Elly needed something far more valuable than that: a plan built around her goal.
This wasn’t about random gym sessions or burning calories. It was about understanding how surfing actually works and training the body to support it.
We focused on helping Elly connect with how her body moves, building awareness and control from the ground up. Simple things like learning how to create stability through her feet and toes in a squat position, understanding how her centre of gravity shifts, and recognising how to stay strong while the board moves beneath her.
We also worked on movements that directly transfer into surfing:
Upper body strength for paddling endurance and powerful pop-ups
Fast reaction power to move quickly from lying to standing
Core strength and balance to stay controlled on an unstable surface
Mobility and movement confidence to react naturally in ever changing conditions
Conditioning for repeat efforts in the water
Even exercises like burpees had purpose; not because they’re trendy, but because they mimic the explosive movement patterns needed to pop up onto the board. Every exercise had intention.
Making It Fit Real Life
The best plan in the world only works if it fits your life and you want to do it.
Elly knows mornings are when she feels strongest and most likely to train, so we leaned into that. Together we built focused 22-minute sessions that felt manageable, realistic and effective.
No wasted time. No fluff. No punishing routines.
Short, smart sessions built around surfing-specific movement patterns that she could do consistently at home or in the gym.
I achieved more in just 3 months working with Hayley, than I had in 3 years of ‘trying my best’
The Result
While travelling in Sri Lanka, Elly continued coaching remotely with video feedback and WhatsApp support.
And then it happened; she surfed the wave she’d been chasing for years.
A huge milestone, and a reminder of what can happen when training has purpose and consistency behind it.
What We’re Working On Next
Now that the foundations are in place, we move into the next phase:
Increasing strength with progressive weights
Refining movement technique
Supporting nutrition to fuel performance and recovery
Building more dynamic power
Continuing to grow confidence in and out of the water
Because this isn’t about a quick fix.
It’s about creating a body and mindset that supports the life she wants to live.
